{"id":53691,"date":"2015-02-10T16:10:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T16:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fe4942e7f969ae9d006dc3334bc7f1e2"},"modified":"2015-02-10T16:10:00","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T16:10:00","slug":"press-release-55-million-deal-will-mean-800-new-homes-for-rent-in-greater-manchester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=53691","title":{"rendered":"Press release: \u00a355 million deal will mean 800 new homes for rent in Greater Manchester"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Housing Minister Brandon Lewis today (10 February 2015) announced a multi-million pound deal that will provide nearly 800 homes specifically for private rent in Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>The minister welcomed this latest deal through the government\u2019s \u00a31 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/build-to-rent-guidance-and-allocations\">Build to Rent scheme<\/a>, which is well on track to build 10,000 new homes for private rent.<\/p>\n<p>The move is the latest in a series of steps this government has taken to get Britain building \u2013 creating jobs and providing homes and security for hardworking people. <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"new-homes-in-manchester-and-salford\">New homes in Manchester and Salford<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/build-to-rent-guidance-and-allocations\">Build to Rent fund<\/a> is designed to help developers produce large-scale, quality homes, specifically for the private rented sector.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of today\u2019s agreement, developers Renaker will receive \u00a355 million to build 779 new homes across 2 sites in Manchester and Salford.<\/p>\n<p>Each site will include a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom properties. Work is already underway, and is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.<\/p>\n<p>Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Millions of people use the flexible option of renting so I\u2019m determined to create a bigger, better private rental market offering greater choice for tenants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This extra money will not only create 800 more homes for the people of Manchester and Salford, it will also create jobs and security for hardworking people \u2013 a vital part of our long term economic plan to secure a better future for Britain.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"creating-a-bigger-better-private-rented-sector\">Creating a bigger better private rented sector<\/h3>\n<p>Alongside the Build to Rent fund, the government has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/how-to-rent\">How to rent<\/a> guide, so tenants and landlords know their rights and what to expect when renting privately<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/model-agreement-for-a-shorthold-assured-tenancy\">model tenancy agreement<\/a>, so tenants who want to ask for longer tenancy agreements have the opportunity to do so<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>introduced a new requirement for letting agents to belong to 1 of 3 redress schemes, so the minority of tenants and landlords who get a raw deal have somewhere to go with their complaint<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Chief Executive of the Homes and Communities Agency Andy Rose said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This is a major investment in the private rented sector in Manchester.
