{"id":53940,"date":"2015-02-16T11:04:06","date_gmt":"2015-02-16T11:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=02868ba6d63753128edb66081d5302be"},"modified":"2015-02-16T11:04:06","modified_gmt":"2015-02-16T11:04:06","slug":"news-story-cma-welcomes-cambridge-cinema-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=53940","title":{"rendered":"News story: CMA welcomes Cambridge cinema sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The conclusion of the then Competition Commission\u2019s (<abbr title=\"Competition Commission\">CC<\/abbr>) inquiry in 2013 into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/cineworld-city-screen-merger-inquiry\">Cineworld\u2019s acquisition<\/a> of Picturehouse was that there could be a <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk\/20140402141250\/http:\/www.competition-commission.org.uk\/media-centre\/latest-news\/2013\/Oct\/cc-confirms-cineworld-findings\">substantial lessening of competition in the 3 areas<\/a> \u2013 Aberdeen, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. Cineworld and Picturehouse faced limited competition in these areas, so the acquisition could lead to higher prices for local cinema goers. <\/p>\n<p>Cineworld was required to sell one of the cinemas it owns in each of these areas to an operator approved by the <abbr title=\"Competition Commission\">CC<\/abbr> (now the Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>)).
