{"id":53996,"date":"2015-02-17T10:55:29","date_gmt":"2015-02-17T10:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=c694f36150346be3fed70c09e10fb344"},"modified":"2015-02-17T10:55:29","modified_gmt":"2015-02-17T10:55:29","slug":"news-story-modern-slavery-bill-strengthened-to-provide-better-protection-for-victims-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=53996","title":{"rendered":"News story: Modern Slavery Bill strengthened to provide better protection for victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The landmark legislation, which will become an Act of Parliament before the General Election, is currently being scrutinised in the House of Lords.<\/p>\n<p>The new changes to the Modern Slavery Bill help make sure victims of modern slavery receive the best possible support and protection by: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring child victims find it easier to access the statutory defence for victims; <\/li>\n<li>Providing child trafficking advocates with clearer powers to help them look after the wellbeing of child victims;<\/li>\n<li>Enabling support for victims of trafficking to be placed in statute through regulations; And<\/li>\n<li>Giving the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner greater powers to safeguard his independence and making clear that he can look at support and assistance for victims. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minister for Modern Slavery and Organised Crime Karen Bradley said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Strengthening support for victims of modern slavery and targeting the perpetrators form the two central planks of our work to eradicate this vile trade.<\/p>\n<p>Victims are at the heart of everything we do and I want to make sure those affected receive the best possible protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">These changes will help ensure child victims are better supported by the Criminal Justice System, and that they receive the help needed to allow them to recover from their ordeal.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Work published by the Home Office Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Bernard Silverman, last year estimates there are between 10 and 13 thousand potential victims of slavery in the UK. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister for Modern Slavery and Organised Crime, Karen Bradley, has announced a package of amendments to strengthen the Modern Slavery Bill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/53996"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=53996"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/53996\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=53996"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=53996"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=53996"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
