{"id":54128,"date":"2015-02-20T11:31:16","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T11:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=6abb2b737ec1294211e64f2562b06106"},"modified":"2015-02-20T11:31:16","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T11:31:16","slug":"news-story-monitor-secures-commitment-from-colchester-to-improve-emergency-services-and-finances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=54128","title":{"rendered":"News story: Monitor secures commitment from Colchester to improve emergency services and finances"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>It has agreed to legally binding undertakings with Monitor, the health sector regulator, under which it will fix issues with how its emergency services are organised, led and staffed.   <\/p>\n<p>As a result, Colchester will now:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>develop and implement a focused and credible A&amp;E improvement plan<\/li>\n<li>take positive steps to improve nurse staffing levels<\/li>\n<li>work effectively with any future additional support arranged for the trust by Monitor  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Monitor acted after an inspection of Colchester\u2019s A&amp;E and Emergency Assessment Unit by the Care Quality Commission (<abbr title=\"Care Quality Commission\">CQC<\/abbr>) rated it as \u2018inadequate\u2019.  As a result, Colchester is now rated as \u2018inadequate\u2019 overall by the <abbr title=\"Care Quality Commission\">CQC<\/abbr>. <\/p>\n<p>Colchester has also agreed to take action to address the financial challenges it faces by developing and implementing an effective financial recovery plan for 2015\/16.  <\/p>\n<p>The trust has been subject to enforcement action by Monitor since November 2013, including being placed in special measures for problems with its cancer services. <\/p>\n<p>Katherine Cawley, Regional Director at Monitor, said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Colchester isn\u2019t providing its patients with the high quality emergency care they deserve, so we expect it to make improvements and quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Our action is designed to make sure Colchester\u2019s emergency services are organised, well managed and adequately staffed.
