{"id":54452,"date":"2015-02-27T10:00:55","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T10:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=dfe7b8ed5e6e9c9a31937c7bc71508a4"},"modified":"2015-02-27T10:00:55","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T10:00:55","slug":"news-story-basildon-and-thurrock-to-take-action-to-improve-its-finances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=54452","title":{"rendered":"News story: Basildon and Thurrock to take action to improve its finances"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>An investigation by Monitor found the trust has shortcomings in its financial management. <\/p>\n<p>Monitor launched an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/investigation-launched-into-basildon-and-thurrocks-finances\">investigation<\/a> into the finances of the trust in December 2014 because of concerns over its financial position. The investigation found that Basildon is breaching its licence to provide healthcare services on a sustainable basis by predicting a \u00a320m deficit for 2014\/15, and not having a realistic recovery plan. <\/p>\n<p>The trust has agreed with Monitor that it will develop and implement a short-term recovery plan while the regulator carries out an assessment of the trust\u2019s financial sustainability to identify how services for patients can be secured in the long-term.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these reviews, the trust has agreed with Monitor that it will commission an external review into its financial management to identify any failings that need to be fixed. <\/p>\n<p>Monitor previously removed Basildon from special measures in June 2014 after the trust significantly improved the quality of its health services.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Mills, Deputy Regional Director at Monitor, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We are pleased Basildon has agreed with us that it should take action to improve its finances and financial management, as we believe this is in the best interest of patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">These steps should help the trust return to a stable financial footing.
