He is a highly accomplished senior executive with many years experience in the private sector. David will join the Capita team, and start as the <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> Chief Executive on Tuesday 5 May 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation's\">DIO\u2019s<\/abbr> current Chief Executive, Richard McCarthy <abbr title=\"Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\">CBE<\/abbr>, will be resuming his wider role within Capita\u2019s property and infrastructure business on 20 March 2015. Colin Wood, the <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation's\">DIO\u2019s<\/abbr> Chief Operating Officer, will take on the <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer's\">CEO\u2019s<\/abbr> responsibilities from this date until David Mitchard arrives. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the appointment of the new Chief Executive, Permanent Secretary Jon Thompson said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I welcome the appointment of David into this vital role. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise from the private sector which will undoubtedly prove invaluable for the future of <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> and the defence estate. I would also like to thank Richard for his outstanding work in his time as chief executive and wish him well on his return to Capita.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Commenting on his time as <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation's\">DIO\u2019s<\/abbr> Chief Executive, Richard McCarthy <abbr title=\"Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\">CBE<\/abbr> said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It has been a rich and rewarding period since Capita was announced as the preferred bidder. Having worked on the <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> bid from the start and successfully steered the organisation through the early months of the <abbr title=\"Strategic Business Partner\">SBP<\/abbr> contract, I leave the <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> in a strong position to develop a more efficiently run and utilised Defence estate.
