{"id":54578,"date":"2015-03-02T16:36:42","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T16:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=83a997f7e7d8d9ea9ce24d61c36ce650"},"modified":"2015-03-02T16:36:42","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T16:36:42","slug":"news-story-transport-secretary-visits-wolverhampton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=54578","title":{"rendered":"News story: Transport Secretary visits Wolverhampton"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin visited Wolverhampton today (2 March 2015) to discuss local and regional rail links, including potential improvements to Wolverhampton railway station and proposals to devolve control of the railways in the West Midlands.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary of State met with representatives of <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.westmidlandsrail.com\/our-proposition\/\">West Midlands Rail<\/a> (<abbr title=\"West Midlands Rail\">WMR<\/abbr>), a consortium of 14 metropolitan, shire and unity authorities, to discuss their proposition for rail devolution in the area, which was developed following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/rail-decentralisation-devolving-decision-making-on-passenger-rail-services-in-england\">government\u2019s consultation<\/a> on giving local communities greater responsibility for how rail services are run.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">\u00a338 billion is being invested in our rail network as part of the government\u2019s long term economic plan to generate jobs and growth. Giving local areas a greater say over how their train services are run can help drive the improvements to our railways that passengers want.
