{"id":54694,"date":"2015-03-04T15:54:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-04T15:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a233ce45f79100a89ebdfe5a57c3611d"},"modified":"2015-03-04T15:54:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-04T15:54:00","slug":"press-release-new-advice-from-cefas-on-rame-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=54694","title":{"rendered":"Press release: New advice from Cefas on Rame Head"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>In processing a licensing application in late January 2015, the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> was formally advised by Natural England of the existence of an area of mud situated in the Whitsand and Looe <abbr title=\"Marine Conservation Zone\">MCZ<\/abbr> which is in the proximity of the Rame Head site. <\/p>\n<p>Following the advice, which was identified as part of a separate verification process to develop evidence on the <abbr title=\"Marine Conservation Zone\">MCZ<\/abbr>, the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> commissioned a review of the mud with <abbr title=\"Centre for Environment, Fisheries &amp; Aquaculture Science\">Cefas<\/abbr>. <abbr title=\"Centre for Environment, Fisheries &amp; Aquaculture Science\">Cefas<\/abbr> has now advised the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> that further work is required to determine the origin of the area of mud which measures approximately 2km2 in size. <\/p>\n<p>John Tuckett, Chief Executive Officer said: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a responsible marine manager we took a precautionary approach and have not since licensed any disposal at the Rame Head site due to its proximity to the nearby <abbr title=\"Marine Conservation Zone\">MCZ<\/abbr>.  <\/p>\n<p>We will not licence any applications to dispose at Rame Head whilst <abbr title=\"Centre for Environment, Fisheries &amp; Aquaculture Science\">Cefas<\/abbr> work continues to determine whether or not the site remains viable.<\/p>\n<p>We are working with all applicants who require disposal licences including the Ministry of Defence to look into alternative disposal sites in the longer term.
