{"id":54902,"date":"2015-03-09T15:29:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-09T15:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=e8f35951fb42ebbe8b921adf0feb8480"},"modified":"2015-03-09T15:29:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-09T15:29:00","slug":"news-story-members-of-new-commission-on-assessment-without-levels-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=54902","title":{"rendered":"News story: Members of new commission on assessment without levels announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Following on from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/assessment-without-levels-commission-announced\">announcement on 25 February<\/a>, the Department for Education (<abbr title=\"Department for Education\">DfE<\/abbr>) has now established the membership of the commission on assessment without levels. The commission will support primary and secondary schools to implement new assessment systems following the removal of levels.<\/p>\n<p>The commission on assessment without levels will identify and share best practice in assessment with schools across the country and ensure they have information to make informed choices about effective assessment systems. The commission will highlight the great work that is already being done in many schools and will help to foster innovation and success in assessment practice more widely.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"chairman-of-the-commission\">Chairman of the commission<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"john-mcintosh-cbe\">John McIntosh <abbr title=\"Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\">CBE<\/abbr><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>John McIntosh <abbr title=\"Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\">CBE<\/abbr> is a former headmaster of the London Oratory School and has served as a member of the Health Education Council, the National Curriculum Council, the Teachers\u2019 Standards Review, the Teaching Agency advisory group and the National College for School Leadership advisory board. He was a member of the <abbr title=\"Department for Education\">DfE<\/abbr> advisory committee for the national curriculum review and has been an external expert on free schools interview panels since 2012.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"other-members-of-the-commission\">Other members of the commission<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"shahed-ahmed-obe\">Shahed Ahmed <abbr title=\"Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\">OBE<\/abbr><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Shahed Ahmed is Headteacher of Elmhurst Primary School and a national leader of education. He was involved in the development of the phonics screening check and was on the <abbr title=\"Department for Education\">DfE<\/abbr> advisory group for the new national curriculum. Elmhurst Primary is a teaching school and maths hub.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"daisy-christodoulou\">Daisy Christodoulou<\/h3>\n<p>Daisy Christodoulou is Research and Development Manager at the charity Ark, and before that worked as an English teacher in 2 London secondary schools. She is the author of \u2018Seven myths about education\u2019.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"professor-robert-coe\">Professor Robert Coe<\/h3>\n<p>Robert Coe is Professor in the School of Education at Durham University and Director of the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (<abbr title=\"Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring\">CEM<\/abbr>). <abbr title=\"Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring\">CEM<\/abbr> has provided assessment and monitoring systems to thousands of schools since 1983.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"sam-freedman\">Sam Freedman<\/h3>\n<p>Sam Freedman is the Director of Research, Evaluation and Impact at Teach First. He was previously a senior policy adviser for schools at <abbr title=\"Department for Education\">DfE<\/abbr> between 2010 and 2013. He is a trustee of a number of charities, including the Teacher Development Trust and The Brilliant Club, as well as a school governor.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"mark-neild\">Mark Neild<\/h3>\n<p>Mark Neild is Acting Headteacher of Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form in Norwich, the UK\u2019s first maths and science sixth form. He advised the government on the development of the new maths curriculum.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"natalie-packer\">Natalie Packer<\/h3>\n<p>Natalie Packer is an independent special educational needs (<abbr title=\"special educational needs\">SEN<\/abbr>) consultant and an associate consultant to <abbr title=\"National Association for Special Educational Needs\">NASEN<\/abbr>. She was an adviser to Achievement for All (<abbr title=\"Achievement for All\">AfA<\/abbr>) during the <abbr title=\"Achievement for All\">AfA<\/abbr> pilot. She is also the author of \u2018The perfect <abbr title=\"special educational needs co-ordinator\">SENCO<\/abbr>\u2019.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"dame-alison-peacock\">Dame Alison Peacock<\/h3>\n<p>Alison Peacock is Executive Headteacher of The Wroxham Teaching School. She has sat on a number of assessment panels, including the expert panel to create the core principles of asssessment. She was also a member of the <abbr title=\"National Association of Head Teachers\">NAHT<\/abbr> commission for primary assessment that was set up to consider and develop principles for good assessment for schools to use once levels were removed. She is co-author of \u2018Creating learning without limits\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The commission will also include representatives from both Ofsted and Ofqual.
