{"id":55413,"date":"2015-03-19T12:06:36","date_gmt":"2015-03-19T12:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=de87fee4d14106ffbe68f658f5fa4217"},"modified":"2015-03-19T12:06:36","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T12:06:36","slug":"press-release-angling-ban-threat-following-illegal-fishing-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=55413","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Angling ban threat following illegal fishing conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>An angler caught fishing in a prohibited area in Durham was warned that he faces a ban if discovered fishing illegally again.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Cummings, of Northlands, Chester-le-Street, was found guilty in his absence by North Durham magistrates on 17 March 2015 of an offence under local byelaws.<\/p>\n<p>He was fined \u00a3110 and ordered to pay \u00a3120 costs and \u00a320 victim surcharge. The court warned him that he could be banned from fishing if he appeared again.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Agency fisheries enforcement officers caught Cummings fishing in the prohibited area below Framwellgate Dam on the River Wear in Durham on 5 August 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The prohibited area is intended to provide protection to fish that congregate below weirs when travelling to their spawning grounds,<\/p>\n<p>Environment Agency fisheries enforcement team leader Kevin Summerson said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>These byelaws are important for the protection of all species of fish, in particular at times when they are attempting to migrate upstream to reach spawning grounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Offences of this type can have a serious effect on the spawning at a time when salmon and trout are perceived to be in decline on many of the rivers in England.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Illegal angler warned after Durham offence<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/55413"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=55413"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/55413\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=55413"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=55413"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=55413"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
