PwC<\/abbr> has been appointed to review the process so far on decisions about the future of Manston Airport, Transport Minister John Hayes announced today (19 March 2015).<\/p>\n

The appointment of PwC<\/abbr> is part of the government\u2019s commitment to support Thanet District Council in their efforts to secure Manston\u2019s future. The Kent airport closed on 15 May 2014 and the council has subsequently been considering options for keeping it open. The Prime Minister made a commitment to do everything he can to help.<\/p>\n

Creating more jobs so more people have the security of a regular wage is a part of the government\u2019s long-term economic plan for South Thanet, and Manston Airport has a vital role to play. Transport Minister John Hayes has met with key participants including the council, local MPs and residents to find a path for progress.<\/p>\n

John Hayes said:<\/p>\n

The independent consultancy we have appointed will strengthen the ability of Thanet District Council to find the right deal to secure Manston\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

I am determined to deliver on the Prime Minister\u2019s commitment that the government does all it can to support the people of Thanet, to create more jobs and to boost the local economy.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what our long-term economic plan is all about.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The decision to appoint an independent consultant was made by the Department for Transport after Thanet District Council was unable to agree a suitable indemnity partner in a compulsory purchase order. PwC<\/abbr> will report back to the DfT<\/abbr> and the council in May 2015.<\/p>\n
