{"id":55779,"date":"2015-03-25T11:38:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T11:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5d977719bc51cf0830c74e11f3ec623c"},"modified":"2015-03-25T11:38:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-25T11:38:00","slug":"press-release-25-million-injection-to-help-life-changing-childrens-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=55779","title":{"rendered":"Press release: \u00a325 million injection to help \u2018life-changing\u2019 children\u2019s services"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Department for Education\u2019s voluntary and community sector (<abbr title=\"voluntary and community sector\">VCS<\/abbr>) grants will be used to reform or deliver life-changing services over the next year.<\/p>\n<p>After a competitive application process, the department has chosen 94 projects that will make the biggest impact on children, young people and their families.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time the department has separately identified mental health as a theme in the <abbr title=\"voluntary and community sector\">VCS<\/abbr> grants in recognition of the significant role improvements in this area have in supporting better outcomes for children and young people. Organisations specialising in child mental health care will receive a total of \u00a34.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>The money will also be spread between organisations specialising in adoption (\u00a31.7 million), children in care (\u00a31.4 million), early education and childcare (\u00a35.3 million), family advice and support (\u00a31.8 million), safeguarding (\u00a33.3 million) and special educational needs and disabilities (\u00a35.9 million). The grants will supplement existing government funding that supports these sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Education Secretary Nicky Morgan said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019m delighted to give this injection of support to the voluntary sector, which offers life-changing services to children and their families.<\/p>\n<p>This was a highly competitive process and every bid given money today has shown that they will put the funds to great use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This is a significant investment in a tough financial climate which will make a real difference across the country.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"successful-bids\">Successful bids<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"barnardos\">Barnardo\u2019s<\/h3>\n<p>Barnardo\u2019s will receive more than \u00a3735,000 to safeguard children and young people from child sexual exploitation (<abbr title=\"child sexual exploitation\">CSE<\/abbr>). They will increase awareness of <abbr title=\"child sexual exploitation\">CSE<\/abbr> among businesses and services working in the night-time economy and develop strategies to identify and protect children at risk at night<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"the-diana-award\">The Diana Award<\/h3>\n<p>The Diana Award will receive \u00a3450,000 to create 2,500 anti-bullying ambassadors and train 600 teachers and youth professionals in issues around bullying. They will also provide anti-bullying toolkits with a particular focus on cyber bullying.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"mind\">Mind<\/h3>\n<p>Mind will receive around \u00a3400,000 to create a pilot promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in schools. It will raise pupils\u2019 awareness of mental health issues and improve their access to information and support. It will enable effective early intervention, deliver targeted workshops and provide one-to-one guided self-help and support.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"notes-to-editors\">Notes to Editors<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>The department received a total of 463 bids for <abbr title=\"voluntary and community sector\">VCS<\/abbr> funding. The applications were assessed by Department for Education officials and the successful bids were ratified by ministers. All organisations with unsuccessful bids were notified earlier in the year.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Ministers set the policy direction for the process. To meet the strategic objectives of the department, applications have been assessed with this in mind alongside a set of overarching criteria as publicised in the prospectus.
