His contract will be extended for 3 years when his current term expires on 31 July 2015. <\/p>\n<p>Lord Freud said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am delighted that Paul has been reappointed as Chair of the Social Security Advisory Committee. He will continue to bring a wealth of skills and experience to the committee.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul Gray said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It has been a great privilege to lead the committee over the past 3 years during a period of significant change to the welfare system, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue to serve in this important and rewarding role.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"about-the-committee\">About the committee<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/social-security-advisory-committee\">Social Security Advisory Committee<\/a> is an independent statutory body formed in 1980. It provides advice to the Secretary of State on proposals for the amendment of secondary legislation and on general social security matters as required. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-commissioner-for-public-appointments\">The Commissioner for Public Appointments<\/h2>\n<p>The Commissioner for Public Appointments regulates all appointments made by the Secretary of State to <abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr>. All such appointments are made in accordance with the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/the-code-of-practice\/\">Code of Practice<\/a> published by the commissioner.
