{"id":56052,"date":"2015-03-27T12:09:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-27T12:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=904d84f7c361dc2ab779a6f13a8b1103"},"modified":"2015-03-27T12:09:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-27T12:09:00","slug":"news-story-members-of-new-animal-disease-surveillance-governance-board-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=56052","title":{"rendered":"News story: Members of new Animal Disease Surveillance Governance Board announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Dr Paul Burr, Mr Ian McGrath, Mr Paul Roger and Dr Nick Fenwick have also been appointed to the Board, along with 2 \u2018ex officio\u2019 members, Nigel Gibbens, UK Chief Veterinary Officer, and Richard Irvine, <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr> Head of Scanning Surveillance.  <\/p>\n<p>The Animal Disease Surveillance Governance Board is responsible for providing strategic advice to <abbr title=\"Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs\">Defra<\/abbr> and the Welsh Government through the Animal Health and Welfare Board for England, and the Wales Animal Health and Welfare Framework Group. <\/p>\n<p>It is a partnership board between government and industry and has been established as part of changes that <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr> is making to its veterinary scanning surveillance system. <\/p>\n<p>The Board will advise on the best use of <abbr title=\"Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs\">Defra<\/abbr> and Welsh Government funding for animal health surveillance, to retain the confidence of animal keeping sectors and enable government to meet national and international obligations. <\/p>\n<p>For further information, see the <span class=\"attachment inline\" id=\"attachment_979146\"><br \/>\n  <a href=\"\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/418116\/surveillance-governance-board-ToR.pdf\">terms of reference<\/a><br \/>\n  (<span class=\"type\"><abbr title=\"Portable Document Format\">PDF<\/abbr><\/span>, <span class=\"file-size\">75.4KB<\/span>, <span class=\"page-length\">4 pages<\/span>)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"information-on-the-members\">Information on the members<\/h3>\n<p>Dirk Pfeiffer is a Professor of veterinary Epidemiology and Head of the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economic and Public Health group in the Department of Production and Population Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College. He is a current member of the Exotic Disease Subgroup, Science Advisory Council, and has extensive experience in animal disease surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Burr is a veterinary surgeon and Director of Biobest Laboratories Ltd.
