{"id":56407,"date":"2015-04-17T09:41:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-17T09:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=0eaae8d2f9a695c28e99faa0c65c567a"},"modified":"2015-04-17T11:51:46","modified_gmt":"2015-04-17T11:51:46","slug":"news-story-sergeant-commended-for-10-years-of-cnc-fundraising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=56407","title":{"rendered":"News story: Sergeant commended for 10 years\u2019 of CNC fundraising"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Typo corrected<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>As the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (<abbr title=\"Civil Nuclear Constabulary\">CNC<\/abbr>) celebrates its 10th year since being formed on 1 April 2005, an officer has received a Chief Constable\u2019s commendation for raising over \u00a370,000 for charity over the decade.<\/p>\n<p>Sgt Neill Dearden is the training supervisor for all <abbr title=\"Civil Nuclear Constabulary\">CNC<\/abbr> training courses for new recruits and has been involved in every training course since the very first one was run in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>During this time, he has overseen the training and development of over 1,100 new recruits and has encouraged each class of recruits to take part in a charity event of some kind, providing a real team building opportunity as well as raising funds for local and national charities.<\/p>\n<p>Fundraising events which Neill and recruits have taken part in during the decade include a bike ride to Paris; the Coast to Coast challenge; climbing Mount Kilimanjaro; the Ridgeway and Thames Path walk; climbing Scafell Pike six times; stretcher carrying through Cumbria, and numerous 1,000 mile challenges, half marathons and 10K runs.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Neill at the top of Kilimanjaro\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/38636\/Neill_at_top_of_Kilimanjaro.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Commending Sgt Dearden for his efforts, Chief Constable Mike Griffiths said: \u201cI was proud to be able to acknowledge all the hard work Sgt Dearden has put in over <abbr title=\"Civil Nuclear Constabulary\">CNC<\/abbr>\u2019s first decade by, not just in training our recruits to become part of the <abbr title=\"Civil Nuclear Constabulary\">CNC<\/abbr> family, but also in raising over \u00a370,000 for charity. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis dedication in giving up his free time to arrange and take part in these charity events while encouraging others to raise money in their own time for a number of excellent causes is an example to us all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sgt Dearden said: \u201cAlthough I am delighted to receive a commendation from the Chief Constable, I wouldn\u2019t have been able to continue to fund raise without the support of the <abbr title=\"Civil Nuclear Constabulary\">CNC<\/abbr> and the willing participation of the 1,100 plus recruits I have had the pleasure of working with over the last 10 years\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach and every one of them should be incredibly proud of their achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the recipients of Sgt Dearden\u2019s fundraising have included; the British Heart Foundation; Mencap; Help for Heroes; National Police Memorial; National Police Treatment Centre; Cancer Research; Child Brain Injury Trust; Great North Air Ambulance; Chiltern Air Ambulance; Helen and Douglas House; 42 Commando Memorial Appeal; West Cumberland Hospital Children\u2019s Ward; St Bees Lifeboat; St Bees Scouts; Moor Row Primary School; Abingdon Riding School for the Disabled;
