{"id":56409,"date":"2015-04-17T14:00:23","date_gmt":"2015-04-17T14:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=855cf7c599cfb7f77a1ecc5bf46d7cac"},"modified":"2015-04-17T14:00:23","modified_gmt":"2015-04-17T14:00:23","slug":"news-story-cma-confirms-poundland99p-stores-merger-referral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=56409","title":{"rendered":"News story: CMA confirms Poundland\/99p Stores merger referral"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/poundland99p-stores-merger-faces-in-depth-investigation-unless-suitable-undertakings-offered\">announced on 9 April 2015<\/a> that it would refer the merger for a full investigation unless Poundland Group plc and 99p Stores Limited offered acceptable undertakings to address the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s competition concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Insufficient evidence was available at the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s initial phase of investigation for it to be confident that the transaction would not result in a realistic prospect of a substantial lessening of competition through a possible reduction in quality, fewer promotions or closure of stores.<\/p>\n<p>As the parties have not offered any undertakings, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> will now start an in-depth merger investigation to decide whether the merger raises substantial competition problems that need to be remedied. A decision on the merger will be made by a group of independent panel members supported by a case team of <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> staff.
