{"id":57318,"date":"2015-05-28T18:54:12","date_gmt":"2015-05-28T18:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ad28d7a4d3de2b9cd9954ae545e51ef9"},"modified":"2015-05-28T18:54:12","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T18:54:12","slug":"press-release-government-publishes-eu-referendum-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=57318","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Government publishes EU Referendum Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Delivering on the Prime Minister\u2019s commitment to give the British people a very simple choice on the UK\u2019s membership of the EU, the EU Referendum Bill was introduced into Parliament today. <\/p>\n<p>Contained within the Bill is the question that will be put to the electorate, as well as making clear the franchise for the referendum.<\/p>\n<p>Voters will be asked: \u2018Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens over 18 who are resident in the UK will be eligible to vote as well as UK nationals resident overseas for less than 15 years. <\/p>\n<p>The franchise for the referendum will be based on the General Election franchise, plus members of the House of Lords and Commonwealth citizens in Gibraltar. <\/p>\n<p>This means that Irish, Maltese and Cypriots resident in the UK will get a vote, but other EU citizens won\u2019t. <\/p>\n<p>In line with the Prime Minister\u2019s commitment, the Bill also confirms that the referendum will be held by 31 December 2017. <\/p>\n<p>The Bill is being introduced 40 years after the last referendum on the UK\u2019s membership of the EU.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the referendum, the Prime Minister will discuss with EU leaders how the UK can work with partners to reform the EU and renegotiate our relationship with it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government has published legislation that will give British people a say on the UK\u2019s EU membership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57318"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=57318"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57318\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=57318"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=57318"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=57318"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
