{"id":57578,"date":"2015-06-04T12:28:41","date_gmt":"2015-06-04T12:28:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=d005f2ff18e609ec64aa29138bb0c2d9"},"modified":"2015-06-04T12:28:41","modified_gmt":"2015-06-04T12:28:41","slug":"news-story-professor-dirk-pfeiffer-joins-apha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=57578","title":{"rendered":"News story: Professor Dirk Pfeiffer joins APHA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Professor Dirk Pfeiffer joined the agency on 1 June, and is currently Head of the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health Group at the Royal Veterinary College (<abbr title=\"Royal Veterinary College\">RVC<\/abbr>). He will work with <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr>\u2019s epidemiological scientists to strengthen and develop epidemiological capability in the agency. <\/p>\n<p>Kath Webster, Director of Scientific Services at <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr> commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am really pleased that Professor Pfeiffer is joining us. This is a marvellous opportunity for <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr> scientists to draw on his experience and will help to strengthen our disease prevention planning and disease management capability.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Professor Pfeiffer is currently working on several projects covering animal health surveillance methods and animal diseases such as avian influenza, PPR (peste des petits ruminants) and African swine fever.<\/p>\n<p>On joining <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr>, Professor Pfeiffer added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am delighted to be taking on this exciting new role. I\u2019m looking forward to leading and supporting scientists from across the agency in building epidemiological capability, keeping the agency at the forefront of disease planning and evaluation strategies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Principal of the Royal Veterinary College, Professor Stuart Reid, commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are excited that the College, through Professor Pfeiffer and his group, can work in partnership with <abbr title=\"Animal and Plant Health Agency\">APHA<\/abbr> and contribute to work that will help to protect the UK\u2019s livestock industry from significant disease threats that it faces.
