{"id":58101,"date":"2015-06-18T10:38:34","date_gmt":"2015-06-18T10:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2b2517d90040f6a1f83793d8723c4e65"},"modified":"2015-06-18T10:38:34","modified_gmt":"2015-06-18T10:38:34","slug":"press-release-uk-export-finance-reports-achievement-of-enhanced-capabilities-in-2014-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=58101","title":{"rendered":"Press release: UK Export Finance reports achievement of enhanced capabilities in 2014-15"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>It reported clear progress throughout 2014-2015, both on the support it provided exporters and on the development of capabilities in line with its three-year business plan published at the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Key highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>strong continued support for UK exports \u2013 business up to \u00a32.7 billion (2013\/14: \u00a32.3 billion)<\/li>\n<li>direct support to 160 UK companies (2013\/14: 130) <\/li>\n<li>more than 6,000 companies indirectly benefited from <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr>\u2019s support in 2014-15<\/li>\n<li>innovation shown as first export credit agency to:\n<ul>\n<li>support Islamic finance for aircraft sales (with a <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr>-backed sukuk three times over-subscribed in the debt capital markets).<\/li>\n<li>work on a transaction in Chinese local currency (offhshore renminbi).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>introduction of an enhanced direct lending facility and first loan made.<\/li>\n<li>launch of a unique loan re-financing back-stop scheme \u2013 the Export Refinancing Facility &#8211; designed to protect large projects from market disruptions.<\/li>\n<li>new enhanced statutory powers granted.<\/li>\n<li>voted Best Export Credit Agency by Global Trade Review.<\/li>\n<li>independently rated 9\/10 for product range against European competitors (they averaged 7.9) by the British Exporter\u2019s Association.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lord Maude of Horsham, Minister for Trade and Investment: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The role that successive governments have set for <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr> \u2013 of filling gaps in private market support \u2013 is one of keen judgement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It supports exports which might not otherwise happen by assuming financial risks that the private market cannot take, at the same time operating at no net cost to the taxpayer over time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The annual report discusses some of the high value opportunities for UK exporters supported by <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr> including its continued support for the Sadara petrochemical project in Saudi Arabia, the largest it has ever supported on a limited recourse project financing basis. Large cases such as these have enormous benefits extending beyond the lead UK contractors through the UK supply chains. For example <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr>\u2019s support for Carillion\u2019s work on the Dubai World Trade Centre saw about 38% of the contract value ($42 million) flow down to other UK suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>The report also tracks the progress <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr> has made supporting SMEs in the supply chain and <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr> estimate that for every company it directly supports an additional 27 companies in the supply chain will also benefit.<\/p>\n<p>A busy year also saw <abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr> appoint new key staff, undertake a public consultation on improvements to its anti bribery and corruption provisions, continue work to streamline and digitise its processes, launch two online toolkits to support banks and brokers that are offering its products and increase its communications and marketing activities to help raise awareness \u2013 including a national marketing campaign under the Exporting is GREAT banner. <\/p>\n<p>David Godfrey, Chief Executive, UK Export Finance: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"UK Export Finance\">UKEF<\/abbr> has undergone tremendous change since the economic downturn and this year\u2019s results have laid strong foundations on which we can continue to build.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This strength combined with the flexibility that our new enhanced powers provide means we can now look forward to more progress, invention and innovations as we implement the remaining years of our business plan.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/annual-report-and-accounts-2014-to-2015\">Download a copy of the report and accounts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"notes-for-editors\">Notes for Editors<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>UK Export Finance is the UK\u2019s export credit agency.
