{"id":58344,"date":"2015-06-24T15:31:14","date_gmt":"2015-06-24T15:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a069a31741d13110d28c07afe54061c3"},"modified":"2015-06-24T15:31:14","modified_gmt":"2015-06-24T15:31:14","slug":"press-release-new-study-into-uk-productivity-welcomed-by-ukces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=58344","title":{"rendered":"Press release: New study into UK productivity welcomed by UKCES"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A new report from the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) highlighting key steps for employer action to tackle productivity has been welcomed by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (<abbr title=\"UK Commission for Employment and Skills\">UKCES<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.acas.org.uk\/productivity\">The report<\/a>, launched today, highlights the sharp drop in UK productivity, with output per hour worked in the UK 17% below the average for advanced G7 economies last year.<\/p>\n<p>In order to tackle the issue, the report identifies seven levers for employers to help raise productivity, including a greater focus on job design and better utilisation of skills.<\/p>\n<p>The report also points towards the need for more skilled managers, a view reinforced by <abbr title=\"UK Commission for Employment and Skills\">UKCES<\/abbr> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/growth-through-people-evidence-and-analysis\">Growth Through People: Evidence and Analysis<\/a> \u2013 which highlights the UK\u2019s \u2018long tail\u2019 of weakly managed businesses failing to maximise the talents of their workers.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Davis, chief executive of <abbr title=\"UK Commission for Employment and Skills\">UKCES<\/abbr>, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>These findings further reinforce the need to boost productivity in the UK, secure economic growth and ensure we keep pace with international competitors.<\/p>\n<p>Making better use of the skills we already have in our workforce is crucial to this. <abbr title=\"UK Commission for Employment and Skills\">UKCES<\/abbr> findings show that nearly half of UK employers have employees with skills that are not being fully utilised \u2013 effectively leaving talent lying on the table.<\/p>\n<p>Increasing awareness of the role good management skills can play in changing this is also vital.
