{"id":58857,"date":"2015-07-07T15:28:57","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T15:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=98fdb3069d45d6e8e5eabe36a97db06d"},"modified":"2015-07-07T15:28:57","modified_gmt":"2015-07-07T15:28:57","slug":"press-release-alun-cairns-patagonia-one-of-the-great-stories-of-migration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=58857","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Alun Cairns: Patagonia \u201cone of the great stories of migration\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Wales Office Minister, Alun Cairns will today visit an exhibition in London marking the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Welsh settlement \u2018Y Wladfa\u2019 in Patagonia.<\/p>\n<p>In 1865, a group of around 153 people from across Wales set off from Liverpool on board the tea clipper Mimosa to start a new life in Patagonia.<\/p>\n<p>150 years on, their story is being brought to life through a photographic exhibition by Marcos Zimmerman on display at the Palace of Westminster. <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"wales-office-minister-alun-cairns-said\">Wales Office Minister Alun Cairns said:<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The history of the Welsh settlement in Patagonia is one of the great stories of human migration. It is a story of tenacity and fortitude, driven by the desire for a better life and the dream of establishing a new Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">In Patagonia today the interest in the Welsh language, Welsh customs and our way of life is stronger than ever.
