{"id":59867,"date":"2015-07-31T16:56:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T16:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ca3571e954539ac7e82c1e77c9e0b585"},"modified":"2015-07-31T16:56:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T16:56:00","slug":"news-story-transport-minister-chairs-summit-to-support-hauliers-businesses-and-people-of-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=59867","title":{"rendered":"News story: Transport Minister chairs summit to support hauliers, businesses and people of Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Transport Minister Andrew Jones visited Maidstone in Kent today, 31 July 2015, where he held a meeting with Kent County Council, Kent Police and Highways England to urgently examine measures to alleviate the impact of disruption in Calais on local residents.<\/p>\n<p>The minister announced a series of actions the Department for Transport (<abbr title=\"Department for Transport\">DfT<\/abbr>) will take, building on the Prime Minister\u2019s announcement following <abbr title=\"Cabinet Office briefing room\">COBR<\/abbr> today on coordinated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/calais-cobr-meeting-31-july-2015-statement\">work by government<\/a> to address the unacceptable disruption in Dover and Coquelles.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with Kent County Council, Kent Police and Highways England, <abbr title=\"Department for Transport\">DfT<\/abbr> will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>look at how to improve the effectiveness of diversion routes<\/li>\n<li>improve communication by providing greater information to the haulage sector including better use of signs<\/li>\n<li>urgently review the prioritisation of perishable goods, to maintain these valuable exports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Transport Minister Andrew Jones said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am very concerned about the impact being felt by the community in Kent and today I want to reassure all those affected that the government is actively pursuing measures to help. I met members of Kent County Council, Kent Police, Highways England and others today who have been working hard to find short, medium and longer-term solutions to the management of freight to and from the Channel Tunnel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We all want to see Calais and the Channel Tunnel operating as normal and people on both sides of the Channel able to go about their business without disruption.
