{"id":60261,"date":"2015-08-11T14:51:52","date_gmt":"2015-08-11T14:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2da76536dfb5df345c8e41094ef730cc"},"modified":"2015-08-11T14:51:52","modified_gmt":"2015-08-11T14:51:52","slug":"press-release-record-fish-on-the-tyne-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=60261","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Record fish on the Tyne"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Record numbers have passed over a Northumberland fish counter. <\/p>\n<p>The fish counter on the River Tyne at Riding Mill recorded more than 10,000 fish moving upstream  during July \u2013 1,200 more than previous top numbers. <\/p>\n<p>And the counter has also recorded the highest numbers this year since it was installed in 1996 \u2013 the most fish returning in almost 20 years. <\/p>\n<p>Almost all fish counted last month will be sea trout and salmon. <\/p>\n<p>The fish counter \u2013 in conjunction with video cameras further upstream \u2013 means the Environment Agency can estimate the numbers of salmon and sea trout returning to the Tyne each year. <\/p>\n<p>The Environment Agency\u2019s Morton Heddell-Cowie, of the Environmental Monitoring Team, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The River Tyne\u2019s fish count in July has surpassed all previous totals for this month, with a mixture of salmon and sea trout being seen.<\/p>\n<p>This is good news as it indicates healthy stocks and a healthy river.
