Here\u2019s what to do"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>This year, if you\u2019ve paid too much or too little tax, we\u2019re making the process as easy as possible for you.<\/p>\n<p>We will tell you how we\u2019re collecting any underpayment, or we\u2019ll give you a cheque if we owe you money.<\/p>\n<p>There is no need to contact us unless you think the details we\u2019ve used are wrong.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-you-need-to-do\">What you need to do<\/h2>\n<p>If you get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/tax-overpayments-and-underpayments\">P800 tax calculation<\/a>, please check the details are correct.<\/p>\n<p>You can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>compare the figures used with your own records, such as your P60, P11d, bank statements or letters from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)<\/li>\n<li>use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/check-income-tax\">HMRC tax checker<\/a> to check how much tax you should have paid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to do anything if the calculation is correct. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"if-youve-underpaid-tax\">If you\u2019ve underpaid tax<\/h2>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t paid enough tax, we\u2019ll usually change your tax code for the next year to collect the money you owe. This happens automatically so you won\u2019t need to do anything and don\u2019t need to contact us.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we can\u2019t collect the money you owe through your tax code, for example, if you\u2019re now out of work. In this case, we\u2019ll write to you explaining how to pay the money you owe.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"if-youve-overpaid-tax\">If you\u2019ve overpaid tax<\/h2>\n<p>If you have paid too much tax, we will automatically send you a cheque within 14 days of receipt of your P800.
