The inquiry was opened on 1 July 2014 but commission engagement with the trustees\/charity did not commence until March 2015 due to the involvement of another agency. This press release has been delayed due to the commission\u2019s ongoing engagement with that agency.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the inquiry into Fatimiyya Trust was to examine regulatory concerns, including concerns about significant discrepancies in the charity\u2019s income and expenditure when compared against the income and expenditure figures published in the charity\u2019s submitted accounts for the period 2010-13.<\/p>\n<p>The scope of the investigation was to look at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the accuracy of the annual accounts, reports, and annual returns submitted by the charity to the commission, in particular whether the charity\u2019s funds were accurately accounted for as having been applied for a charitable purpose in pursuance of its objects and for the public benefit<\/li>\n<li>whether the trustees complied with their legal duties and responsibilities in relation to the financial governance of the charity<\/li>\n<li>the general administration and governance of the charity, and whether the trustees were capable of fulfilling their legal duties and responsibilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is the commission\u2019s policy, after it has concluded an inquiry, to publish a report detailing what issues the inquiry looked at, what actions were undertaken as part of the inquiry and what the outcomes were. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/inquiry-reports-charity-commission\">Reports of previous inquiries<\/a> by the commission are available on GOV.UK.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/apps.charitycommission.gov.uk\/Showcharity\/RegisterOfCharities\/CharityWithoutPartB.aspx?RegisteredCharityNumber=1118447&amp;SubsidiaryNumber=0\">charity\u2019s details can be viewed<\/a> on the commission\u2019s online charity search tool.<\/p>\n<p>Ends<\/p>\n<p>PR 55\/15<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3 id=\"notes-to-editors\">Notes to editors<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/charity-commission\">The Charity Commission<\/a> is the independent registrar and regulator of charities in England and Wales, acting in the public\u2019s interest, to ensure that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>charities know what they have to do<\/li>\n<li>the public know what charities do<\/li>\n<li>charities are held to account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Section 46 of the Charities Act 2011 gives the commission the power to institute inquiries.
