{"id":60733,"date":"2015-08-26T16:22:38","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T16:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=8177d59ed071dc2c12a5e1201e188d7b"},"modified":"2015-08-26T16:22:38","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T16:22:38","slug":"news-story-open-innovation-within-defence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=60733","title":{"rendered":"News story: Open innovation within defence"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Sponsored by the Ministry of Defence\u2019s (<abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>) Chief Scientific Adviser, this study will contribute to a long term science and technology (<abbr title=\"science and technology\">S&amp;T<\/abbr>) innovation plan, which aims to improve <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>\u2019s ability to harness innovation to deliver sustainable operational advantage. <\/p>\n<p>Recognising wider best practice, <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>\u2019s Research and Development (<abbr title=\"Research and Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr>) Board agrees that a more \u2018open\u2019 approach to innovation is needed, for example, working with a range of partners\/suppliers to create and exploit new ideas, while sharing the risks and rewards.<\/p>\n<p>The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (<abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>) is working with two companies, 100%Open and Aleph Insights, to help <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> understand the defence enterprise\u2019s readiness for open innovation. The aim is to get a broad perspective on where <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> stands today on open innovation and some of the key barriers\/enablers to <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>\u2019s adoption of open innovation in the future.<\/p>\n<p>At a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/dstl-presents-full-breadth-of-2015-work-to-suppliers\"><abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> supplier event in July 2015<\/a>, defence science and technology suppliers took part in a workshop around open innovation within <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> to begin the study. The next stage of the study is to seek a wider range of views from suppliers through an online, \u2018open innovation readiness\u2019 survey.
