The research priorities provide the strong evidence base needed to support development of intellectual property (<abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr>) policy, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>This rolling programme of research looks to build on the existing evidence base and support future development of policy across all <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr> rights and the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>\u2019s objective of creating a balanced <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr> framework.<\/p>\n<p>The new research priorities will look to deliver projects around three themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>enforcement and infringement<\/li>\n<li>\n<abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr>, innovation and growth<\/li>\n<li>the value of <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Intellectual Property Minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe said:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our understanding of the economic benefits of <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr> is growing year on year. The UK\u2019s \tfuture economic success lies in innovative businesses recognising and valuing their intangible assets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>\u2019s work in delivering a robust <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr> system is integral to that success and is down to the sterling work of the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> and its development of an <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr> system that supports business. These priorities help us understand how a well-functioning <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr> system can build business confidence to invest in innovative ideas to capture new markets, generate income and increase returns on their investments.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Pippa Hall, Chief Economist, <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am excited to announce the publication of the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>\u2019s new research priorities for 2015-2016. Our excellent Economics team commissions a wide range of <abbr title=\"intellectual property\">IP<\/abbr>-related research to build the economic evidence base.
