Thank you Sir Alan for that introduction.<\/p>\n

And thanks for inviting me to the first jointly hosted Red Ensign Group reception<\/a> during London International Shipping Week<\/a>. <\/p>\n

It is a pleasure and a privilege to be part of such a distinguished gathering of industry colleagues and fellow ministers. <\/p>\n

Tonight (9 September 2015) is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of the Red Ensign Group<\/a>. <\/p>\n

But also to promote our collective strength as quality shipping registers joined under the British Flag. <\/p>\n

Together, this is an outward-looking trading group with a proven record of leadership in the maritime sector. <\/p>\n

Your professionalism and integrity is respected throughout the world.<\/p>\n

But that doesn\u2019t mean there aren\u2019t differences within the group.<\/p>\n

In fact those differences mean that the customer base can make informed choices.<\/p>\n

Whether to operate in or out of the EU<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n

This side of the Atlantic or in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

With different eligibility criteria and ownership structures.<\/p>\n

And options to tap into different specialities – in super yachts or tankers, cruise liners or small workboats, for example. <\/p>\n

But what unites the Red Ensign Group over and above those differences is the collective commitment to quality.<\/p>\n

The very best standards of safety, seafarer welfare, environmental protection and security.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s by working together \u2013 government and industry in partnership \u2013 that we can achieve the growth that\u2019s so important for the maritime sector.<\/p>\n

London International Shipping Week \u2013 and the Red Ensign Group \u2013 are very real and practical demonstrations of that.<\/p>\n

So thank you for the work you do, and the contribution you make.<\/p>\n

I also want to acknowledge the great work of the Mission to Seafarers<\/a> and its dedication in supporting mariners worldwide. <\/p>\n

The mission does a great and often unsung job and very much deserves our support tonight.<\/p>\n
