{"id":61529,"date":"2015-09-16T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-16T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f1bdbcecdd9fbb9a1f58a7b6870abdd6"},"modified":"2015-09-18T16:16:00","modified_gmt":"2015-09-18T16:16:00","slug":"news-story-creating-camouflage-that-can-change-colour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=61529","title":{"rendered":"News story: Creating camouflage that can change colour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Link to DSEI presentation slides now available<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>With funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/centre-for-defence-enterprise\">Centre for Defence Enterprise (<abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr>)<\/a>, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foliumoptics.com\/\">Folium Optics<\/a> has developed technology for adaptive camouflage \u2013 camouflage that can change its colour to better match the background. <\/p>\n<p>The proof-of-concept research funding allowed Folium Optics to successfully demonstrate solutions that can switch between any of the colours that are normally used in camouflage.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eeT8cpnTkxQ\">Folium Optics Adaptive Camouflage technology<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the future, a total system using this adaptive camouflage could be used on a vehicle to allow the crew to switch between different camouflage patterns depending on the type of terrain they are operating in. <\/p>\n<p>Folium Optics uses plastic as the core technology of the adaptive camouflage, which means it\u2019s robust, thin and can be any shape &#8211; even curved. The displays used in the technology are very efficient, have very low power consumption and work well, even in bright sunlight.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Stephen Kitson, Managing Director, Folium Optics says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The funding and support from <abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr> has allowed us to engage for the first time in the defence sector.
