{"id":62081,"date":"2015-09-24T14:00:33","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T14:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=0c9459135ed2f02d770b68ab3093c059"},"modified":"2015-09-24T14:00:33","modified_gmt":"2015-09-24T14:00:33","slug":"news-story-cma-considers-remedies-in-family-law-information-merger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=62081","title":{"rendered":"News story: CMA considers remedies in family law information merger"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Earlier this month, the Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/cma-raises-competition-concerns-over-family-law-information-merger\">announced that it would refer the anticipated acquisition<\/a> by Reed Elsevier (UK) Limited (trading as LexisNexis) of Jordan Publishing Limited for an in-depth phase 2 investigation unless acceptable undertakings were offered. <\/p>\n<p>Reed Elsevier and Jordan Publishing both publish textbooks, loose-leafs, journals, court references works and news services in print and online for the legal sector. The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> believes the merger could give rise to a substantial lessening of competition (<abbr title=\"substantial lessening of competition\">SLC<\/abbr>) in the supply of legal information in 3 segments of the family law practice area, namely children law, matrimonial property law and family court reports.<\/p>\n<p>Reed Elsevier has now proposed undertakings to the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>, providing for a divestment of one title in each of these segments to a suitable purchaser. The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> considers that there are reasonable grounds for believing that the undertakings offered by Reed Elsevier, or a modified version of them, might be accepted by the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>. <\/p>\n<p>As part of this process, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> will consult publicly on the effectiveness of the proposed undertakings. The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> now has until 19 November 2015 to consider whether to accept the proposed undertakings (or a modified version of them).
