Around \u00a3300,000 will be available to fund projects, each with an expected value of up to \u00a350,000.<\/p>\n<p>Chemical contamination can be a risk to human life and the wider environment. The priority of <abbr title=\"Government Decontamination Service\">GDS<\/abbr> is to support local authorities in decontaminating and reinstating areas. <\/p>\n<p>The aim of this competition is to address 2 challenges:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>how best to decontaminate building materials<\/li>\n<li>how to develop new or improved simulants that mimic how chemicals react on common building surfaces  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Innovate UK will run this competition through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/sbri-the-small-business-research-initiative\">SBRI<\/a>, the Small Business Research Initiative.
