{"id":63023,"date":"2015-10-20T09:55:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-20T09:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a2f2db8f4eba606fcc1e288a8d31a76e"},"modified":"2015-10-21T11:46:31","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T11:46:31","slug":"news-story-aerodays-2015-innovate-uk-highlights-game-changing-technologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=63023","title":{"rendered":"News story: Aerodays 2015: Innovate UK highlights game-changing technologies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Pictures added from the first day of the event.<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Innovate UK is promoting the best of British aerospace innovation at <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aerodays2015.com\">Aerodays 2015<\/a>, Europe\u2019s flagship event for research in aeronautics and air transport, being held in London this week.<\/p>\n<p>Aerodays is a major networking opportunity for the entire European aeronautics and air transport community, organised as part of the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/fp7\/index_en.cfm\">EU Research Framework programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ashley Bryant, managing director of VTOL Technologies, at his stand exhibiting a wing design at Aerodays 2015.\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/45327\/INNOVATE_UK_AERODAYS_ashley_bryant_vtol_managing_director_0014.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Ashley Bryant, managing director of VTOL Technologies, at Aerodays 2015.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It attracts more than 1,000 delegates, including ministers from national governments, European Commissioners, aviation industry CEOs, technology organisations and universities from across Europe and further afield. <\/p>\n<p>The event focuses on goals being set for the industry under the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.acare4europe.com\/\"><abbr title=\"Advisory Council for Aviation Research and Innovation in Europe\">ACARE<\/abbr><\/a>  Flightpath 2050 vision for European aviation: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a trebling of air capacity  \t<\/li>\n<li>CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions cut by 75% <\/li>\n<li>one accident per 10 million flights <\/li>\n<li>nitrous oxide emissions cut by 90%  <\/li>\n<li>flights landing within one minute of schedule<\/li>\n<li>perceived noise reduced by 65% <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Paul Miller, of Rolls-Royce, with a model of a new aero-engine concept\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/45328\/INNOVATE_UK_AERODAYS_paul_miller_electrical_systems_specialist_rolls_royce_0023.JPG\"><\/div><figcaption>Paul Miller, of Rolls-Royce, with a model of a distributed fan propulsion concept.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Innovate UK works with government and other agencies, such as <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ati.org.uk\/\">Aerospace Technology Institute<\/a> (ATI) and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theagp.aero\/\">Aerospace Growth Partnership<\/a> (AGP) to help the UK make the most of global market opportunities in a total civil aerospace market of $5 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>They include a need for 27,000 aircraft of 100-plus seats, 24,000 business jets and 40,000 helicopters by 2033.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"funding-for-smes\">Funding for SMEs<\/h3>\n<p>Aerodays 2015 will feature companies being funded by Innovate UK to develop \u2018highly innovative technology enablers in aerospace\u2019 (HITEA).<\/p>\n<p>HITEA competitions look for entries that offer solutions to key aerospace industry challenges and for opportunities to bring in technologies and capabilities from outside the traditional aerospace sector.<\/p>\n<p>Innovate UK has invested a total of \u00a319 million in HITEA 1 and 2 projects.
