{"id":63066,"date":"2015-10-21T10:25:28","date_gmt":"2015-10-21T10:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=39117bd5ad23b3af423645816fb4cedf"},"modified":"2015-10-21T10:25:28","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T10:25:28","slug":"press-release-uk-and-china-join-forces-to-boost-creative-and-technology-industries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=63066","title":{"rendered":"Press release: UK and China join forces to boost creative and technology industries"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Low carbon taxis, zero-emission sports cars, and a TV training programme were the centre of a \u00a3325 million suite of creative and technology partnerships between the UK and China announced today (21 October 2015).<\/p>\n<p>These partnerships, encompassing film, TV, music and advanced engineering, will develop innovative new technologies in cutting-edge facilities in both the UK and China. <\/p>\n<p>TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will join President Xi and Madam Peng Liyuan on a visit to Lancaster House to meet a range of UK and Chinese companies working in creative collaboration, and see some of the best of current British TV, film and theatre. The exhibitions and demonstrations will feature Poldark, <abbr title=\"British Broadcasting Corporation\">BBC<\/abbr> Earth, Sherlock, the Society of London Theatre with Jackie Chan in attendance. <\/p>\n<p>Low carbon breakthroughs are at the heart of the announcements, with Aston Martin unveiling a \u00a350 million deal with China Equity to develop its zero-emission RapidE sports car. London Taxi Company owner Geely also announced an additional \u00a350 million investment to enhance their research capabilities and launch a new fleet of zero-emission-capable black cabs.<\/p>\n<p>Business Secretary Sajid Javid said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Global partnerships are essential in building a Britain that is stronger, more prosperous and full of opportunity. Deals like those announced today will ensure our economy remains resilient and our businesses feel well-equipped to face the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This is a perfect example of how UK-China collaboration not only promotes investment but also makes a difference to the lives of ordinary people. It is another reason why China remains one of our most important international partners.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"British Broadcasting Corporation\">BBC<\/abbr> Worldwide is announcing that <abbr title=\"British Broadcasting Corporation\">BBC<\/abbr> Earth Films and SMG Pictures are to co-produce a new documentary feature film for cinematic release in 2017 \u2013 the first deal completed under the landmark Sino-UK Film Co-Production Treaty ratified by <abbr title=\"the Department for Culture, Media &amp; Sport\">DCMS<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China\">SARFT<\/abbr> in 2015. The 2 companies are also announcing a deal to introduce the upcoming Sherlock Special to China, as part of a global cinema event (pending Chinese regulatory approval) and an <abbr title=\"memorandum of understanding\">MoU<\/abbr> to co-produce Coast China, the third international version of the long running <abbr title=\"British Broadcasting Corporation\">BBC<\/abbr> series Coast. <abbr title=\"British Broadcasting Corporation\">BBC<\/abbr> Worldwide also today announced a co-production agreement with CCTV 9, the documentary channel of China\u2019s national TV network, for <abbr title=\"British Broadcasting Corporation\">BBC<\/abbr> natural history series, The Hunt.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile University of York has developed a \u00a3200 million TV training programme. Working with China Capital Investment Group (<abbr title=\"China Capital Investment Group\">CCIG<\/abbr>), the programme will recruit up to 300 students a year from China and other countries and will be delivered in bespoke facilities on the York campus.<\/p>\n<p>Merlin Entertainments have announced plans for a joint venture with China Media Capital to enable further expansion of their attraction brands in China, including opportunities for a new full-scale LEGOLAND Park in Shanghai and Midway brands like \u2018The Dungeons\u2019 and \u2018Dreamworks Tours\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The UK\u2019s creative industries are one of our biggest success stories, generating more than \u00a38.8 million every hour of every day for the UK economy. It is an industry of which we can rightly be proud.<\/p>\n<p>These new collaborations with China mark yet another step forward for UK innovation. By sharing our skills and expertise we can enter markets we wouldn\u2019t have dreamt of entering a decade ago, and reach people who have yet to experience the magic of British film, theatre or video games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">From James Bond to Downton Abbey, our creativity is renowned globally and I look forward to seeing what exciting projects and developments come out of the UK and China in the months and years to come as a result of the close partnerships being forged.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Other ventures being announced today include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a \u00a325million agreement between Future TV and Scottish company Distrify to distribute the best of Chinese content internationally<\/li>\n<li>ITVS Global Entertainment has signed an exclusive, multi-year deal with leading Chinese online video company LeTV for the Chinese broadcast rights to Poldark. The Mammoth Screen and Masterpiece-produced drama will join LeTV\u2019s programming line-up in December. Meanwhile, ITVS GE and Huace TV have signed a co-development deal for Huace to produce a new show in the lead-up to the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games<\/li>\n<li>a commercial theatre skills exchange programme, to train  young and upcoming technicians in the world of theatre<\/li>\n<li>arrangements for UK-China film co-production, whereby UK filmmakers would gain access to Chinese studios to make co-produced films and access the Chinese film market<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><abbr title=\"British Academy of Film and Television Arts\">BAFTA<\/abbr>\u2019s President, His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge, will present President Xi with a gift to \u2018symbolise the spirit of open, creative collaboration that <abbr title=\"British Academy of Film and Television Arts\">BAFTA<\/abbr> promotes between the UK and China in film, television and games\u2019. <abbr title=\"British Academy of Film and Television Arts\">BAFTA<\/abbr> also announced upcoming activity, including its first-ever event in Beijing and an expanded scholarship programme to cover mainland China.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Victoria and Albert Museum\">V&amp;A<\/abbr>, the world\u2019s greatest museum of art and design, is collaborating with China Merchants Group (<abbr title=\"China Merchants Group\">CMG<\/abbr>) to open an ambitious new design museum in Shenzhen in 2017. Opening in the Shekou district of Shenzhen in 2017, the museum will house a <abbr title=\"Victoria and Albert Museum\">V&amp;A<\/abbr> Gallery devoted to 20th and 21st century international design and provide a new perspective to understand the changing design landscape in China.
