{"id":63132,"date":"2015-10-22T08:49:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T08:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=af825b94f7299122f248200b6c1f1b2f"},"modified":"2015-10-22T08:49:00","modified_gmt":"2015-10-22T08:49:00","slug":"news-story-agreement-signed-to-tackle-international-smuggling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=63132","title":{"rendered":"News story: Historic arrangement signed to tackle international smuggling"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> will work closer with China sharing information in the fight against this fraud. <\/p>\n<p>The arrangement establishes a new mechanism for closer working between HM Revenue and Customs (<abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr>) and General Administration of Chinese Customs (<abbr title=\"General Administration of Chinese Customs\">GACC<\/abbr>) including regular information sharing in the fight against Customs fraud, particularly non-duty paid tobacco products smuggled by organised criminals into the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr>. <\/p>\n<p>China is a key <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> partner in our global efforts to tackle the criminality that threatens both of our countries. <abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr>\u2019s and <abbr title=\"General Administration of Chinese Customs\">GACC<\/abbr>\u2019s strengthened co-operation is vital to combating the threat posed by organised criminal gangs. This bilateral arrangement follows Chancellor Osborne\u2019s visit to China last month, where he said it was the Government\u2019s intention for the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> to become China\u2019s \u201cbest partner in the west\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Vicky Ranson, <abbr title=\"HM Revenue and Customs\">HMRC<\/abbr>, Director of Risk and Intelligence Service:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Tobacco fraud costs the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> Government around \u00a32bn a year in lost revenue \u2013 money that could be used on vital public services. Through this new arrangement our governments can share important information more regularly and easily, to better help jointly identify and target organised criminal gangs producing counterfeit tobacco products and illicitly distributing these throughout the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr>.
