They can also use this advice to protect new business ideas and intellectual property in cyber security.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-culture-media-sport\">Department for Culture, Media and Sport<\/a> is investing \u00a3500,000 in the scheme with equal funding from Innovate UK. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-cyber-essentials-certification-works\">How Cyber Essentials certification works<\/h2>\n<p>The Cyber Essentials programme helps organisations develop a secure platform for their business activities. They can also get accreditation to show that they\u2019ve taken these precautions.<\/p>\n<p>Suppliers bidding for a government contract may need this accreditation. Since 2014, all suppliers handling certain sensitive and personal information need Cyber Essentials accreditation.<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 levels of certification available through the scheme:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cyber Essentials \u2013 an external assessor reviews the organisation\u2019s responses to a questionnaire<\/li>\n<li>Cyber Essentials PLUS &#8211; an external assessor carries out tests of the organisation\u2019s IT security systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"details-of-the-cyber-security-innovation-voucher-competition\">Details of the Cyber Security Innovation Voucher competition<\/h2>\n<p>This round of Cyber Security Innovation Vouchers closes at noon on 5 January 2016.
