It enables organisations to clearly demonstrate that they comply with the surveillance camera code of practice and for relevant authorities it\u2019s essential that they can evidence they have shown due regard to the code \u2013 certification enables them to do this.<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 steps to certification. <\/p>\n<p>The first step \u2013 desktop certification \u2013 is aimed at organisations that are working hard to achieve full compliance with the code but are aware that they may need more time to become fully compliant. <\/p>\n<p>The second step \u2013 full certification \u2013 is for organisations that are close to or fully compliant with the code \u2013 it involves a visit and full audit from a certification body. <\/p>\n<p>There are currently 2 <abbr title=\"United Kingdom Accreditation Service\">UKAS<\/abbr> accredited certification bodies who are qualified to audit against the surveillance camera code of practice \u2013 the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ssaib.org\/\">SSAIB<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nsi.org.uk\/certification-scheme-for-operators-of-public-space-surveillance-camera-systems\/\">NSI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Successful organisations will receive a certificate and be able to display the commissioner\u2019s certification mark on their website and other publicity material.  <\/p>\n<p>Tony Porter said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Certification enables organisations to demonstrate to communities that they use their CCTV systems transparently, effectively and proportionately. It shows they comply with the surveillance camera code of practice and indicates they follow best practice.
