{"id":64857,"date":"2015-12-01T15:08:46","date_gmt":"2015-12-01T15:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=b75c2b793bd712c4655952f068e112ba"},"modified":"2015-12-01T15:08:46","modified_gmt":"2015-12-01T15:08:46","slug":"press-release-licence-dodging-angler-pays-high-price-for-a-days-fishing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=64857","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Licence dodging angler pays high price for a day\u2019s fishing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The angler was caught without a valid rod licence at Northam Farm fishing lake near Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset on 25 May 2015. <\/p>\n<p>Despite his fishing tackle being clearly visible at the water\u2019s edge and having bought a day permit to fish, Mr Farquharson told Environment Agency bailiffs he had no intention of fishing. <\/p>\n<p>The angler\u2019s attempt to \u2018get off the hook\u2019 seriously backfired when his case went before a district judge at Taunton magistrates court. He was ordered to pay a total of \u00a31,360 in fines and costs after the judge came to the \u2018irresistible conclusion\u2019 he was guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Farquharson, from Newport, South Wales, had earlier pleaded not guilty to fishing without a licence. He failed to appear in court on Wednesday (25 November 2015) and was found guilty in his absence.<\/p>\n<p>Farquharson was fined \u00a3400 plus \u00a3400 costs. He was also ordered to pay \u00a3520 court costs and a \u00a340 victim surcharge.
