{"id":65148,"date":"2015-12-08T14:20:43","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T14:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=bed96fb1d1df3be34094a815e618b675"},"modified":"2015-12-08T14:20:43","modified_gmt":"2015-12-08T14:20:43","slug":"news-story-driver-and-vehicle-standards-agency-dvsa-wins-an-international-road-safety-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=65148","title":{"rendered":"News story: Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) wins an international road safety award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Prince Michael International Road Safety Award recognises the agency\u2019s commitment to improving the security of loads by working in partnership with the transport industry to develop a training, education and enforcement strategy including a :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>training package for enforcement staff featuring an innovative load security matrix<\/li>\n<li>load security guidance working group<\/li>\n<li>guide for operators, including videos <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (<abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr>) Chief Executive, Paul Satoor, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019m extremely pleased that our work to educate drivers and operators on the importance of load security has been recognised in this way.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\"><abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr> will continue to take action against those who transport unsecure loads as they are putting themselves and other road users at risk.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>HRH Prince Michael of Kent said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">At the heart of the really successful programmes whether they be large or small lies partnership. It is rare that a successful intervention can be delivered without bringing together a number of organisations or agencies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The judges said that <abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr> work on improving load security was based on sound research and developed in close partnership with the haulage industry. <\/p>\n<p>It was considered a fine example of enforcement combined with education.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"the-prince-michael-international-road-safety-award\">The Prince Michael International Road Safety Award<\/h3>\n<p>The Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognise achievements and innovations which will improve road safety.<\/p>\n<p>Each year the most outstanding examples of international road safety initiatives are given public recognition through the scheme.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"support-from-the-transport-industry\">Support from the transport industry<\/h3>\n<p>The training, education and enforcement strategy was developed in partnership with a range of organisations including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>trade associations<\/li>\n<li>the Police<\/li>\n<li>large and small haulage companies<\/li>\n<li>Highways England<\/li>\n<li>Health &amp; Safety Laboratory (HSL)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Freight Transport Association (<abbr title=\"Freight Trade Association\">FTA<\/abbr>) Head of Engineering, Andy Mair, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\"><abbr title=\"Freight Trade Association\">FTA<\/abbr> is delighted that <abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr> has received the Prince Michael Road Safety Award. Having worked with the Association and other industry stakeholders in creating the road securing guide, it is clear how important the document is to assist operators in the transport and supply chain industry to understand methods of securing loads, and to improve compliance with load securing standards.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\"><abbr title=\"Freight Trade Association\">FTA<\/abbr> firmly believes that the level of compliance for load securing has improved as a result of this work which is a positive step towards road safety, and the easy to understand guidance has played a part in this.  Guidance is a result of collaboration of industry, and this award is clear recognition of how it has changed the way organisations in our sector work.
