More than three-quarters of a million people who were previously long-term unemployed have found a job through the government\u2019s Work Programme, industry figures have shown.<\/p>\n

New national statistics released today show that nearly half a million (482,000) secured lasting employment of 3 months or more. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile the proportion of the latest participants achieving a job outcome within 12 months of joining the programme has more than doubled since it was launched in 2011. <\/p>\n

Employment Minister Priti Patel, said:<\/p>\n

Our welfare reforms have been about supporting people to move into work and achieve their aspirations.<\/p>\n

Initiatives like the Work Programme have helped thousands of people gain new skills and then go on to get the security and dignity of a job.<\/p>\n

These latest results from the Work Programme mean there are more people looking forward to a positive future where they can support themselves and their families.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The figures follow on from Labour Market Statistics out yesterday which show long-term unemployment is at a 10 year low.<\/p>\n

It was announced as part of the recent Spending Review<\/a> that the government will build on the success of the Work Programme and Work Choice<\/a> to create a new Work and Health Programme, to support people with health conditions and disabilities and those who are long-term unemployed back into employment.<\/p>\n

Priti Patel added:<\/p>\n

As we look ahead in our drive to support all people in society, our emphasis is on helping those with disabilities and long-term health conditions who are able to work so they too can benefit from the rewards a career can bring.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Work Programme<\/h3>\n

The 2-year Work Programme gives unemployed people, who have claimed benefits for up to a year, dedicated and tailored guidance.<\/p>\n

It focuses on helping people to stay in work, rather than just getting a job which happened under previous schemes. <\/p>\n
