{"id":65779,"date":"2015-12-21T15:26:51","date_gmt":"2015-12-21T15:26:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=7dc3613715af9820715c9ad54809d76c"},"modified":"2015-12-21T15:26:51","modified_gmt":"2015-12-21T15:26:51","slug":"news-story-european-commission-seeks-views-on-empowering-ncas-to-be-effective-enforcers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=65779","title":{"rendered":"News story: European Commission seeks views on empowering NCAs to be effective enforcers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The European Commission (<abbr title=\"European Commission\">EC<\/abbr>) is consulting publicly on how to empower <abbr title=\"national competition authorities\">NCAs<\/abbr> to be more effective enforcers and is <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/competition\/consultations\/2015_effective_enforcers\/index_en.html\">gathering views<\/a> from a wide range of stakeholders on how to ensure that <abbr title=\"national competition authorities\">NCAs<\/abbr>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>can act independently when enforcing EU competition rules and have the resources and staff needed to do their work <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>have an adequate competition toolbox to detect and tackle infringements <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>can impose effective fines on companies that break the rules<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>have leniency programmes, which encourage companies to come forward with evidence of illegal cartels, that work effectively across Europe<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) intends to respond to the consultation as a UK NCA and member of the European Competition Network and would encourage other UK stakeholders representing the interests of both consumers and businesses to do the same.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>If you are interested, please respond by completing the <abbr title=\"European Commission\">EC<\/abbr>\u2019s <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eusurvey\/runner\/SurveyEmpoweringNationalCompetitionAuthorities\">questionnaire<\/a>.
