It has become home to over a thousand digital, technical and creative start-ups since it started 4 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister met a number of digital entrepreneurs and spoke at the Croydon Tech City 2016 Conference where the organisation outlined its plans for 2016.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, the Minister took a tour Croydon Tech City\u2019s HQ in the new <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.no1croydon.co.uk\/\">Number 1 Croydon<\/a> building. Number 1 Croydon houses 4 floors of small and medium sized businesses, including <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dotmailer.com\/\">DotMailer,<\/a> <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/natterbox.com\/\">Natterbox,<\/a> and start-ups in the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sinc.co.uk\/\">Sussex Innovation Centre.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the visit the minister praised initiatives developed by Croydon Tech City for having a real impact on the lives of young people in the area. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/croydontechcity.com\/future-tech-city\">Future Tech City<\/a> which offers mentoring, apprenticeships and work experience to give young people the skills needed to be future tech innovators<\/li>\n<li>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.appsforgood.org\/\">Apps for Good<\/a> which encourages young people to create apps that change the world for the better; 45,000 students have taken part since 2010<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minister for the Cabinet Office Matt Hancock said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Croydon Tech scene is really going full throttle. Tech City is reaching out into the community and helping young people learn the right skills to start and grow a business, and to connect to a network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It\u2019s clearly the start of something \u2013 and I want the government to do all we can to get behind initiatives likes this.
