{"id":67356,"date":"2016-02-06T00:00:37","date_gmt":"2016-02-06T00:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=0e579817cd0f830a7e8cea9ccce46dd9"},"modified":"2016-02-06T00:00:37","modified_gmt":"2016-02-06T00:00:37","slug":"press-release-government-showcases-north-as-financial-services-hotspot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=67356","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Government showcases North as financial services hotspot"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<ul>\n<li>James Wharton highlights the contribution of Northern Powerhouse to the UK\u2019s leading global position in financial services<\/li>\n<li>the sector employs over 400,000 across the North<\/li>\n<li>\u2018near-shore\u2019 services moving even more jobs into the area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Northern Powerhouse Minister, James Wharton today (6 February 2016) challenged global financial services companies to tap in to the wealth of talent the region has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking after attending an event in Leeds promoted by UK Trade &amp; Investment, which has showcased the Yorkshire region as a Financial Centre of Excellence. The minister will attend a similar event in Manchester later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Despite London\u2019s square mile being undisputed as Europe\u2019s financial capital, Mr Wharton highlighted that most people employed by the sector in this country were based outside of the Capital. <\/p>\n<p>The growing financial services industry in the Northern Powerhouse boasts more than 400,000 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012 alone, such companies across the Leeds and Sheffield city regions contributed \u00a314.06 billion to the UK economy. <\/p>\n<p>Several key players in the sector are choosing to \u2018near-shore\u2019 their services, moving jobs both of out London and back to the UK from overseas.
