{"id":67693,"date":"2016-02-17T12:36:20","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T12:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=36785a8a44c7c6aa7e7ee7b519be5882"},"modified":"2016-02-17T12:36:20","modified_gmt":"2016-02-17T12:36:20","slug":"press-release-main-construction-starts-on-m6-smart-motorway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=67693","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Main construction starts on M6 smart motorway"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Highways England is upgrading a 20 mile stretch of the route between junctions 16 near Crewe and 19 near Knutsford to a smart motorway.<\/p>\n<p>Work will start on 26 February on the first section of the scheme \u2013 an 8 mile stretch between Knutsford and Middlewich near junction 18. Work will continue in similar phases to minimise disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Narrow lanes and a temporary 50mph speed limit will be installed. Some lane closures will be in place while these are installed but once in place, the narrow lanes will allow 3 lanes to be kept open in each direction.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to smart motorway work, crews will also undertake maintenance work on bridges and structures along the route.<\/p>\n<p>Smart motorways improve journeys by monitoring traffic flow and setting speed limits accordingly to keep traffic moving smoothly. The hard shoulder will be converted to a traffic lane to create the much needed extra capacity.
