{"id":67972,"date":"2016-02-25T17:44:42","date_gmt":"2016-02-25T17:44:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a22632d929c7df2f964dc70a91dede01"},"modified":"2016-02-25T17:44:42","modified_gmt":"2016-02-25T17:44:42","slug":"press-release-minister-announces-new-digital-technology-partnership-in-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=67972","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Minister announces new digital technology partnership in Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Minister for the Cabinet Office, Matthew Hancock, today visited South Wales to announce a new partnership between the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/ons\/index.html\">Office for National Statistics (<abbr title=\"Office for National Statistics\">ONS<\/abbr>)<\/a> and Newport educational charity <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alacrityfoundation.co.uk\/\">Alacrity.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new partnership will bring the digital expertise of Alacrity to the <abbr title=\"Office for National Statistics\">ONS<\/abbr>, one of Newport\u2019s biggest employers, as it develops and modernises the UK\u2019s key economic statistics.<\/p>\n<p>The minister visited Alacrity \u2013 the UK\u2019s only charity tech incubator \u2013 and saw for himself the Welsh digital revolution taking place. Alacrity\u2019s mission is to mentor the brightest graduates in Wales to create a new generation of British digital workers. <\/p>\n<p>During his visit, the minister met students going through their Graduate Entrepreneurship programme as well as companies that have completed it. He also visited the Office for National Statistics headquarters in Newport. <\/p>\n<p>Matthew Hancock, Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General, said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Digital technology has the potential to revitalise government and business, supporting the economy and the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The potential to revolutionise and build organisations through high quality digital skills should not be underestimated, and businesses such as Alacrity are changing the digital landscape of Wales through training and developing skills.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Professor Simon Gibson, Chair of the Alacrity Foundation\u2019s trustees, said: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am delighted Alacrity and the <abbr title=\"Office for National Statistics\">ONS<\/abbr> are collaborating to accelerate the growth of Wales\u2019 and the United Kingdom\u2019s digital economies. We are proud of our unique status as a charitable tech incubator, providing access to seasoned world class mentors and creating the next generation of British tech companies in Wales. For this reason it seems entirely appropriate we should forge a relationship with a world class body like the <abbr title=\"Office for National Statistics\">ONS<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>John Pullinger, National Statistician from the Office of National Statistics, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As the home of the UK\u2019s economic statistics, it is vitally important that <abbr title=\"Office for National Statistics\">ONS<\/abbr> Newport fully embraces the current revolution in data technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It offers the ability to produce important economic indicators like employment, prices and GDP faster and more reliably than ever before. To do so we need to develop new skills and new ways of doing things.
