The attach\u00e9s are also helping to promote respect for intellectual property in both emerging and established economies, encouraging cooperation and mutual respect for <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> rights.  <\/p>\n<p>In the past year alone, the attach\u00e9s, who help businesses navigate and understand local <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> regimes abroad, have advised on <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> rights worth in excess of \u00a347 million and have held one-on-one meetings with more than 200 businesses. <\/p>\n<p>Minister for <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr>, Baroness Neville-Rolfe, revealed these latest statistics to a British business audience at the CBI, a key partner of the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> in promoting British business interests. <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"baroness-neville-rolfe-minister-for-intellectual-property-said\">Baroness Neville-Rolfe, Minister for intellectual property, said:<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> attach\u00e9s represent great value for money. They support British businesses operating overseas and have a major impact on the improvement of the global <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The UK is setting an example to the rest of the world and helping to build universal respect for <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> rights. The attach\u00e9s are having a significant influence on British trade, and protecting <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> rights worth millions of pounds to the UK economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"tom-thackray-cbi-acting-competitive-markets-director-said\">Tom Thackray, CBI Acting Competitive Markets Director, said:<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Building understanding and awareness of foreign intellectual property systems is crucial to inspiring business confidence in international markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> attach\u00e9s play a key role in providing on the ground support to companies looking to grow through exporting. The CBI and our members are committed to working with the Government to ensure that respect for <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> rights in emerging economies continues to build.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"notes-to-editors\">Notes to editors<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The UK strengths in <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> intensive sectors gives it a strong interest in ensuring effective <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> protection in key overseas markets. One of the biggest challenges facing British businesses who want to operate in the region is protection of their intellectual property rights. During the Prime Minister\u2019s visit to Singapore in July 2015 this was one of the key points he emphasised in his speech <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/speeches\/singapore-pm-press-conference\">full speech is available<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li>The UK Intellectual Property Office (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>) has attach\u00e9s based in China, India, Brazil and South East Asia, some of the world\u2019s most challenging and fast growing markets.
