{"id":68235,"date":"2016-03-05T00:00:02","date_gmt":"2016-03-05T00:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2334d25345364b9413b8ab3cf96afd06"},"modified":"2016-03-05T00:00:02","modified_gmt":"2016-03-05T00:00:02","slug":"press-release-eight-seaside-communities-receive-extra-funding-to-create-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=68235","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Eight seaside communities receive extra funding to create jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The UK\u2019s only Grade 1 listed pier is one of 8 projects to receive a cash boost to create jobs and training places, and help seaside towns attract visitors all-year round, Communities Minister Mark Francois announced today (5 March 2016).<\/p>\n<p>Clevedon Pier is one of 8 projects to receive a share of an additional \u00a3800,000 from the government\u2019s Coastal Communities Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The projects are to be given the extra funding to help continue work that will create jobs, attract investment and boost the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>Other projects include one of the oldest charter markets in the country, the restoration of an historic passenger ship, and the repair of a much-used rambler\u2019s coastal path following recent damage.<\/p>\n<p>Communities Minister Mark Francois said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We\u2019re determined to unlock the enormous potential of our Great British Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 3 years we\u2019ve already funded more than 200 projects along the shorefront \u2013 from piers and promenades to shop-fronts and sailing centres \u2013 to attract tourists, boost jobs and create vibrant local economies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Now this extra \u00a3800,000 will help put another 8 coastal communities back on the map and kick-start their own exciting regeneration plans.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"reviving-seaside-economies\">Reviving seaside economies<\/h2>\n<p>The government is committed to helping seaside communities create vibrant economies to create jobs, attract investment and boost the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>The other projects receiving funding today are: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kirkleatham Catering Academy in Redcar and Cleveland who will receive an extra \u00a3200,000 to provide training places and apprenticeships for the community and deliver 96 jobs.<\/li>\n<li>Gravesend Borough Charter Market Hall, Gravesend, Kent &#8211; will get an extra \u00a350,000 to revitalise one of the oldest charter markets in England.<\/li>\n<li>Bettheshanger County Park visitor centre, Kent will receive an extra \u00a3175,000 to create a sustainable energy visitor centre which will showcase sustainable technologies and products and promotes east Kent\u2019s coal mining heritage.<\/li>\n<li>South West Coast Path, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset \u2013 will receive over \u00a3130,000 to repair, improve and promote the South West Coastal Path. It will deliver 500 jobs across the south west by the end of the year.<\/li>\n<li>Waldringfield flood defence group, Suffolk \u2013 will receive almost \u00a3100,000 to regenerate and cultivate the local salt marsh \u2013 a biologically diverse environment \u2013 protecting 70 jobs and adding another line of important sea defence.<\/li>\n<li>The coastal cruise vessel MV Balmoral, Bristol &#8211; will receive an additional \u00a352,000 to ready the ship for its return to service in May. The Balmoral, which can take up to 600 people around the south west coast, was originally built in 1949 to ferry passengers between Southampton and the Isle of Wight.<\/li>\n<li>The Goodwin Development Trust, Hull \u2013 will receive an extra \u00a334,000 for business start-up support which will create 70 new businesses supporting 115 new jobs.<\/li>\n<li>Clevedon Pier Heritage Trust Ltd, Somerset \u2013 will receive an extra \u00a375,000 for essential renovation works to reinstate the UK\u2019s only Grade 1 listed pier and enhance the visitor experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"South West Coast Path, Thurlestone Sands, Devon\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/50404\/Thurlestone_Sands_960.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>South West Coast Path, Thurlestone Sands, Devon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"further-information\">Further information<\/h2>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biglotteryfund.org.uk\/ccf\">Coastal Communities Fund<\/a> is financed by the government through the funding equivalent of 50% of the revenues earned from the Crown Estate\u2019s marine activities in England and the devolved administrations. <\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2012, the Coastal Communities Fund has invested over \u00a3120 million on 222 projects, including local infrastructure and economic schemes around the UK.
