{"id":68275,"date":"2016-03-07T12:29:54","date_gmt":"2016-03-07T12:29:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=d3bf57553d771f364223e3472c50821d"},"modified":"2016-03-07T12:29:54","modified_gmt":"2016-03-07T12:29:54","slug":"statement-to-parliament-the-northern-transport-strategy-first-annual-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=68275","title":{"rendered":"Statement to Parliament: The Northern transport strategy: first annual update"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Today (7 March 2016), jointly with <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.transportforthenorth.com\/\">Transport for the North<\/a> (<abbr title=\"Transport for the North\">TfN<\/abbr>), we are publishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/northern-transport-strategy-spring-2016\">first annual update report on development of the Northern transport strategy<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>The report sets out progress across the full range of the transport strategy, covering roads, rail, smart and integrated travel, freight, international and strategic local connectivity including: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the emerging options for the Northern Powerhouse rail network linking the north\u2019s major city regions<\/li>\n<li>an implementation plan for Smart North \u2013 the programme to deliver simplified fares, integrated ticketing and improved online passenger information across all the north\u2019s public transport<\/li>\n<li>findings from the ongoing roads strategic studies in the north; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/road-investment-strategy-post-2020#research-phase-northern-trans-pennine\">north Trans-Pennine routes (A66\/A69)<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/road-investment-strategy-post-2020#research-phase-manchester-north-west-quadrant\">Manchester north west quadrant (M60) studies<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/road-investment-strategy-post-2020#research-phase-trans-pennine-tunnel\">Trans-Pennine tunnel study<\/a> into the options for a new all-weather link between Greater Manchester and Sheffield City region, including a new tunnel under the Peak District National Park<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The report also summarises the initial findings of the Northern Powerhouse independent economic review, commissioned by <abbr title=\"Transport for the North\">TfN<\/abbr>, and sets out <abbr title=\"Transport for the North\">TfN<\/abbr>\u2019s aim to become the first statutory sub-national transport body to be established under the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2016\/1\/contents\/enacted\/data.htm\">Cities and Local Government Devolution Act 2016<\/a>, so that the north of England can speak to government with one voice on its transport priorities.  <\/p>\n<p>Preparation of the report has been led by <abbr title=\"Transport for the North\">TfN<\/abbr>, working closely with the Department for Transport, Network Rail, Highways England, HS2 Ltd and the National Infrastructure Commission.<\/p>\n<p>This report marks the achievements of <abbr title=\"Transport for the North\">TfN<\/abbr> in its first year, towards investing in transport to transform economic growth in the north, and rebalance the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> economy.
