{"id":68960,"date":"2016-03-23T17:48:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T17:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=86089ae666b4d21f3e65efde38b3abbb"},"modified":"2016-03-23T17:48:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T17:48:00","slug":"news-story-hs2-takes-major-step-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=68960","title":{"rendered":"News story: HS2 takes major step forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> took a major step forward this evening as the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/services.parliament.uk\/bills\/2015-16\/highspeedraillondonwestmidlands.html\">hybrid Bill for Phase One of the scheme between London and Birmingham<\/a> successfully passed its third reading in the Commons with <abbr title=\"Members of Parliament\">MPs<\/abbr> voting 399 to 42 in favour of the Bill. The Bill will now pass to the House of Lords. Subject to completing its parliamentary passage, construction will begin next year (2017).<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Once again Parliament has backed <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> and brought this vital new railway one step closer to reality. British contractors are now bidding to build the line, British apprentices are waiting to work on it and British cities are waiting to benefit from it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We expect <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> to begin construction next year.
