The innovative package includes improving access to cloud computing and services, data analytics and the Internet of Things. It will improve the way the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> does business in the research, technology and industrial sectors, and enable <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> companies to compete globally.<\/p>\n<p>Business Minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The fourth industrial revolution will fundamentally change the way we do business in this country. As with previous industrial revolutions, the expectation must be that the net effect will be positive for almost everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The package set out by the European Commission contains stimulating ideas about how businesses can embrace new and interesting ways of working.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I look forward to working with the Commission on a package that works for <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> businesses and agreeing a way forward in the Competitiveness Council.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The package builds on the existing work going on in the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr>, such as digital catapults and support for quantum technologies. It will also help our business and research communities make the most of <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> research and development in high technology areas.  <\/p>\n<p>It sets out suggestions in 4 areas of working: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>digitising European industry, which sets out how the European Commission will help industries to take advantage of digital technologies; supporting collaboration between <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> high value manufacturing<\/li>\n<li>European cloud initiative, to be used by the science community, which could include making scientific data generated by the Horizon 2020 programme open by default<\/li>\n<li>priorities for ICT standardisation, which will help to make it easier for British businesses to operate in the single market<\/li>\n<li>an eGovernment action plan 2016 to 2020, which will help to modernise public administration, making it easier for <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> citizens and businesses to access government services in other European countries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Today\u2019s digital single market proposals follow repeated calls from <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> ministers for the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> to deliver key priorities for the government\u2019s <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> reform and competitiveness agenda.
