{"id":69740,"date":"2016-04-20T08:05:02","date_gmt":"2016-04-20T08:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=241b8618f4c127c3b9b64891cc258855"},"modified":"2016-04-20T08:05:02","modified_gmt":"2016-04-20T08:05:02","slug":"news-story-high-resolution-imaging-from-smaller-apertures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=69740","title":{"rendered":"News story: High-resolution imaging from smaller apertures"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Through Centre for Defence Enterprise (<abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr>) funding, <abbr title=\"small and medium sized enterprise\">SME<\/abbr> Spectra Medical has successfully demonstrated a novel method of imaging using Synthetic Aperture Radar (<abbr title=\"Synthetic Aperture Radar\">SAR<\/abbr>), Optical Coherence Tomography (<abbr title=\"Optical Coherence Tomography\">OCT<\/abbr>) and commercially available components.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Synthetic Aperture Radar\">SAR<\/abbr> is a form of radar that\u2019s used to create high-resolution, broad area imaging of objects, such as landscapes. <abbr title=\"Optical Coherence Tomography\">OCT<\/abbr> is an emerging technology sometimes described as ultrasound with light. With <abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr> funding, Spectra Medical combined <abbr title=\"Synthetic Aperture Radar\">SAR<\/abbr> with <abbr title=\"Optical Coherence Tomography\">OCT<\/abbr> to showcase a new method for collecting high-resolution images from smaller apertures for use in the space and defence sectors.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hoped that in the future this technique will enable higher resolution imaging from smaller apertures than previously needed, such as producing high-resolution images from small micro satellites.<\/p>\n<p>John Rogers, Director, Spectra Medical says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The funding received from <abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr> has allowed Spectra Medical to expand from the medical imaging industry and enter the defence and space sector.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Spectra Medical is a specialist in the technology of <abbr title=\"Optical Coherence Tomography\">OCT<\/abbr>.
